Hello! Thanks for being here.
I live with my husband, three daughters, and dogs Max & Roman in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We have lived a few places over the years but I consider myself a Midwest girl through and through. (I love the fact talking about the weather is a thing… did I mention I thrive in variety?)
After graduating in 2003 from Dordt University with a bachelor’s degree in fine art and education, I made a career out of teaching others about art and sharing my passion with high school students for the past 23 years.
Since the summer of 2022 I have split time as both professional painter & art teacher. There is so much I love about teaching, yet found my passion growing to develop the creative ideas for my own painting business. So… three years after officially starting Sara Mulder Art… I am transitioning to full time artist in June of 2025. (And I think I will keep teaching, just might look a little different than it has in the past… check out my workshop page… wink, wink.)
What a joy to be able to wake up each day and make art!
A lot of my work is commission-based, people reaching out so I can assist in creating what they envision. I love this work and hope it continues as it adds variety and builds wonderful relationships working with my clients. But I also have the privilege to work with a few galleries across the U.S. which have been an incredible way to meet new collectors, work with gallery owners, and also get to know other artists with similar ambitions.
Over the past couple years I have also been blessed to show and display work both with others in a variety of collective shows regionally as well as nationally. A couple of these have been 2 separate collections of 40+ pieces of art for solo shows.
The values I work out of are the same in how I live the rest of life: Love Jesus, and then go love others… it really can be that simple. Because of these two truths, I promise to offer accessibility, clear communication, quality work, and care for those I am blessed to work with. As this path of art-making continues to unfolds, I look forward to whom I get to paint for next, or helping you find a painting you see here which needs a new home in your space.
I can’t wait to connect and create with you!
